

Mariana KOU

Dr. Mariana Kou is a distinguished business leader and influential voice at the intersection of education, capital markets, and innovation. She currently serves as Chairperson and Executive Director of Cinese International Group (1620:HK), a publicly listed travel services company with operations across Canada, the United States, and Mainland China. In addition, Dr. Kou is an Independent Non-Executive Director at Greatview Aseptic Packaging Company (0468:HK) and a strategic advisor to several education ventures globally.
Previously, she was the CEO of Research Study Education Group and the Head of China Education and Hong Kong Consumer Research at leading brokerage and investment firm CLSA, where she earned industry accolades and played a pivotal role in 12 IPOs across the consumer and education sectors. Her thought leadership culminated in the publication of her debut book, "Investing in Dragons: Education Industry and Capital Markets (2020)", offering insights into the evolving education investment landscape in Asia.
In July 2023, Dr. Kou was appointed to the Modern Finance Industry Task Force under the Macau SAR Government Talent Development Committee, reflecting her expertise in finance and policy. She is a Forbes Global Young Leader, a Senator for China at the World Business Angels Investment Forum (WBAF), and a member of YPO. She also serves as the founder of the Asia Education Society, a charitable organization aimed at advancing education access and equity across Asia.
Her board and advisory roles span multiple organizations, including the International Youth STEAM Education Association, the Capital Market Committee of the Hong Kong Independent Non-Executive Director Association, and the Zonta Club of NTII. She also co-founded and co-leads the Columbia Venture Community's Hong Kong chapter, and is a member of the Pacific Basin Economic Council (PBEC). From July 2020 to August 2023, she served as an external adviser to the board of EDTXU:US, and from December 2021 to November 2024, as an independent director of GMFIU:US.
Dr. Kou holds a Global Executive Doctor of Education from the University of Southern California, an MBA from Columbia Business School, and a BBA, magna cum laude, from the University of Notre Dame, where she was awarded the Raymond P. Kent Award. She also completed the Stanford Innovation and Entrepreneurship Certificate program and is a CFA charterholder. Her academic excellence is reflected in her memberships in honor societies including Beta Gamma Sigma (business), Omicron Delta Epsilon (economics), and Kappa Delta Pi (education).
Deeply committed to the future of education and innovation, Dr. Kou is the Patron for EdTech Research at Columbia Business School and a Founding Patron of the Hong Kong Palace Museum, supporting the intersection of culture, learning, and technology.
